If you have never been to India before, or explored its majestic northern region known as the Golden Triangle, here’s an ideal package to ease you in, which we highly recommend. An eight day package put together by bespoke agency Destindia, and comprising heritage accomodation, a visit to the Taj Mahal, an elephant polo game, authentic cookery class and an optional Bollywood dance class! This really is a superbly planned holiday through some of India’s most exciting cultural destinations. Timing: Since Destindia is an entirely bespoke service, this can be arranged anytime, although the best weather for visiting north india is between October and April.
DESTINDIA GOLDEN TRIANGLE ADVENTURE
Day 1:
- arrive in Delhi
- Chill out and relax after your flight.
- Overnight in authentic and stylish hotel Amarya Haveli Guest House in Hauz Khas Enclave.
Day 2:
- Sightseeing of Old & New Delhi- For example:
- Visit the 12th century Qutab Minar
- Visit Humayun’s Tomb – set in beautiful gardens
- Red Fort – this 17th fort complex is one of the gems of Delhi and and a must for any tour through the capital.
- Hauz Khas Village: think of it as the portobello of Delhi: an eclectic mix of fashion boutiques, art galleries, furniture shops, antiques etc- and a great selection of restaurants. Have a cocktail at The Living Room (TLR) whilst listening to live Jazz. At the back of the ‘Village’ is an old ruin overlooking a lake- you feel you have come across a ruin in a deserted jungle, not in the centre of Delhi- could be our favourite place in Delhi

Day 3:
- Bollywood dance class – optional extra for these who are keen.
- Cookery class focussing on authentic north Indian cuisine. Learn the art of Tandoori food, understand regional ingredients, marination techniques, and finally have a go at the Tandoor…..
- Overnight at Hotel Amarya
Day 4:
To Agra (Via Sikandara)
- Visit Sikandra Mosque
- Taj Mahal- Magnificent- when you walk up to the first ‘archway’ and you see it perfectly frame the Taj, it hits you not just in the sheer beauty of the building, but you start thinking what it must have been like, before the internet, before tourism, before printed books, when people would come across it never having been exposed to its images before.
- DestIndia’s experienced guides will ensure you don’t have to deal with the annoyance of street vendors etc, which can be a problem here.
- Red Fort Agra
- Overnight at Hotel- Taj or Oberoi- 5 star with amazing views of the Taj itself
Day 5:
- To Jaipur by car (via Fatehpur Skiri)
- Visit Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted Red Sand Stone City that was built by Emperor Akbar. This extraordinary place was, when it was built, the capital of the Mughal Empire. Owing to a serious problem with the city’s water supply, the Mughals left Fatehpur Sikri after just 15 years and moved to Agra, where they built the fort and later the Taj Mahal. Meanwhile Fatehpur Sikri stood untouched, a complete medieval city of red sandstone. Beautiful mughal architecture with many ‘nooks and crannies’ to explore…
- Arrive in the pink city of Jaipur (take Fiona Caulfield’s Love Travel Jaipur book for the best tips.)
- Overnight at Samode Haveli once belonging to the Jaipur Royal family- beautiful courtyard and great food
Day 6: Jaipur
- Maharaja’s City Palace
- Amber Fort with Elephant ride. Meander up the steep slopes of the fort and see some great views when up there- Elephants in this area are as ubiquitous as black cabs are in London!
- [[Hawa Mahal]] – the Palace of Winds
- Overnight at Hotel
Day 7: Jaipur
- Elephant Polo game- DestIndia arrange a fun but not too competitive match
- Watch a polo match and attended the reception afterwards
- Shopping expert show you around the markets- find unique, items- jewlery etc- get a great feel for the old ‘Pink City’ and DestIndia’s shopping expert can help find some great bargains!
Day 8:
- To Delhi by Air
- Connect to flight back to home or head down to Goa for a week in the sun (ask us to arrange internal flights, pick up, accomodation etc in some of North Goa’s hidden gems.)
